The Retreats and Residencies

We exist to nurture more creatives, to help people realise their potential, and to put humans back at the heart of creativity. Our residencies are organised around all different stages of creativity – beginning, continuing, finishing, or simply working alongside others.

What to Expect

RESIDENCY

Our residencies are designed for writers and artists who want time, structure, and a supportive environment – so they can get to work. You’ll work alongside others, following a rhythm that supports focus, momentum, and productivity. We take care of the conditions – space, food, and quiet – so the work can happen.

The First Draft

For beginning work - or beginning again.

First Draft is for writers and artists at the very start of something. It’s for when the spark of an idea is there, and you need the space to let it out. It could be the book that’s been burning into you, that memoir you want to outline, the script you are hoping to thrash into a first draft.

The Working Draft

We get you through the tough middle.

Working Draft is for artists/writers inside a project – when the initial excitement has worn off, and the work has become more demanding. This is the long middle: when clarity is partial, doubt creeps in, perhaps you have too many options, and progress feels uneven. People call it the saggy middle for a reason.

The Finish

For bringing work to a close.

The Finish is for artists approaching the end of a project – circling an ending, hesitating over final decisions, or perhaps struggling to let something go.

Finishing is its own kind of work. It requires clarity, judgement, and the willingness to commit – often without certainty. This residency creates the conditions for that moment.

The Open Studios

For wherever you are in the work.

Open Studio is the most open of our residencies. It’s for artists and writers at any stage – beginning, middle, end, or somewhere in between.

There’s no agenda beyond working. You’ll follow the same shared rhythm – optional morning work, long uninterrupted days, light evening check-ins – but without a prescribed outcome.

Non-Fiction & Memoir - with Bexy Cameron

Working with lived experience - memory, voice, structure, and distance.

A guided week for writers working with lived experience – memory, voice, structure, and distance. This residency supports the move from personal material into shaped work, with space for reflection.

Through a blend of workshops, self directed writing practice, and group discussions, you’ll have an opportunity to learn how to craft an authentic, engaging narrative that resonates with readers.

Writing a Novel - with Jessica Moor

Dive into the core elements of long-form fiction

This residency is structured around the core elements of long-form fiction – story and character, structure, plotting, and momentum – with generous time to work and space to think. Less talking about writing, more actually doing it.

Full board – facilitated sessions – self-directed work sessions – optional readings – writing exercises – optional excursions – walks – lakes

Scriptwriters’ Week

Join us on a Focussed week for scriptwriters

A focused work week for scriptwriters who want time, space, and a productive environment of people in your field. We’ll look after you, feed you well, and create the right environment to get brilliant work done – whether that’s the first 30 pages, a finished pilot, or a solid outline for a feature.

Setting work intentions, optional morning sessions, uninterrupted stretches to create, and evening check-ins to reflect and reset. Working alongside others who are in the same mode, whether you talk about your work or not, brings a special kind of propulsion.
